Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Please note this title will not be available to buy after 18/09/17! We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. Subtitled "A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream", Hunter S. Thompson's most famous work is a rocking, rolling, drug-crazed caper that combines blisteringly sardonic social commentary and gleefully insane satire. Journalist Raoul Duke attempts to cover two supposedly serious events in Las Vegas but discovers that he can only cope with the farcical madness of both by consuming large quantities of mind-altering substances. Abetted by his large Samoan attorney, and encouraged along his way by the facilities of the great city of vice, Duke descends into a hilarious and barely believable maelstrom of bent cops, wrecked rental cars, mentally disturbed teenage artists and sleeve-sucking hippies. Whether he's scaring hitch-hikers in the desert, racing pensioners on the Strip or hiring laundry girls into nonexistent FBI mole jobs, Duke makes the most of his time in Vegas, in a work of comedic genius which made Gonzo journalism a mainstream genre and catapulted its author into the limelight. A true classic, now available for the first time on one page. A page which, we must stress, is not a giant acid blotter.
